I’m a national award-winning writer and author, and I mentor writers. Fascinated by monsters in the dark and the supernatural, I blend those elements into my stories along with my passion for history, fantasy, romance, and faith.
Growing up, I was a small, shadow-of-a-girl who counted the characters in my books and a loyal dog as my best friends. I never outgrew my need to ask more questions than is socially acceptable – because I want to understand the why and how and who, and the so what and so that. Read about where I come from here.
I am fascinated by monsters.
Monsters are ugly and brutal. They are evil and full of malice. But there’s a monster inside each of us. Every circumstance, every situation — we are forced to choose between grace, mercy, forgiveness or the ugliness that will turn us into monsters. Whether human or fantasy, monsters provide a way to look at the darkest parts of ourselves and see that redemption is always possible. When the only choices are bad and worse – how do you bounce back from that? How do those circumstances and events outside our control change us?
Fun Facts About Me
I love hiking and I hope to do a multi-day backpacking trip soon (but in summer, cause I live in Canada and hiking is more fun when it’s warm).
I can’t stand happy, sappy, everything-tied-up-in-a-bow love stories. Give me something binge-worthy with action and/or intrigue — Broadchurch, Shetland, Poldark, Jason Bourne, Jack Ryan — something with war, struggle, and heart ache, and a character who comes out the other side a better person (I make an exception for Outlander and Dirty Dancing).
I love doing DIY and upcycle crafts. I need things to change–often, but I’m cheap so any decorating projects must cost less than $50.
I’m not a people person–give me my writer’s cave–but I love public speaking. I’m a conundrum.
I am a country mouse through and through — I need fresh air and a dirt road to think.
It’s on my bucket list to live in more than one province in Canada (Alberta is a must).
If I couldn’t live in Canada, my heart’s in Ireland.
If I was stranded on a desert island and could only bring one book with me… (the Bible is supposed to be the go-to answer here, right) I’d definitely bring the books of Middle Earth (you can buy those all in one volume somewhere).
Black is my favourite colour. I dye my hair black. I paint my nails black. All my dress pants are black.
