This week’s issue of the Candid Writer answers two reader questions about how to best use Facebook – with page or profile.
Before I get to the Candid Writer, I’d like to pose a question to all of my writer friends who read this. I almost quit this week. Yepp. I bashed against another brick wall this week and asked myself – what am I doing this for? Money? Clearly not. Fame? hehehe – that doesn’t even warrant a response. Recognition? Partly – I mean, it would be nice to have an answer for all those people who, when they find out I’m a writer ask: so what have you written – by which they really mean what books have your written?
What do I do now? How many manuscripts do you shove in a drawer and vow the next one will be The One? The one that an agent will want to see more of, an editor will want to take to a pub board, that readers will want to read? What do you do when every book you write doesn’t fit. It breaks too many rules – arbitrary marketing rules, not writing rules. I’m not good with arbitrary rules. I don’t fit in a box – never have.
Maybe there are readers out there looking for books that don’t fit in a box? Maybe I don’t fit because I’m not supposed to? *sigh* Maybe I’m just wierd.
I decided to keep at it because I don’t quit, I don’t give up – but some direction would be nice. I decided to keep at it because ultimately I write for me and even though I don’t fit – I’m not that wierd – I don’t think – there have to be people out there who like to read the same things I do.
What do you tell yourself when you think maybe it’s time to move on? [Read more…]
